LGBTI

We want a nation without discrimination and we believe that just because it’s common, it doesn’t make it right that LGBTI people live surrounded with stigma, discrimination and hate violence, with no response from the competent authorities or with their selective action.

This is why the rights of the LGBTI community in North Macedonia have been in our focus ever since 2014. Together with Coalition “Margins” we have worked with the Commission for Protection against Discrimination, which in 2015 adopted the Protocol Determining the Procedure for Processing Complaints of Discrimination on Grounds of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. Together with Coalition “Margins” and in cooperation with municipal stakeholders we have founded the local coordination bodies for protection against discrimination in Kumanovo, Štip and Strumica, which adopted the cooperation promotion protocols for the local mechanisms for protection against discrimination. With the change of government, together with the members of the National Network against Homophobia and Transphobia, where we have played the role of the Secretariat since 2018, we initiated the setting up of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the promotion of LGBTI rights in the Assembly and we organised a study visit to the Netherlands regarding the rights of the LGBTI community. We participated in preparing and advocating the adoption of the Law on the Prevention and Protection against Discrimination, which recognises gender identity and sexual orientation as grounds for protection against discrimination.
