Analysis of the Representation of Women in Public Functions of the Republic of North Macedonia – Identified Trends and Challenges in the Last Ten Years and Recommendations for the Future

This analysis looks at the representation and participation of women in leadership positions at multiple levels of social governance over the past decade and covers the period from 2014 to 2024. It analyses the distribution of leadership positions between women and men in the state and public administration, including participation in the executive branch among members of government and in line ministries, as well as the state of affairs in the institutions that are part of the administration at the central and local levels and in the public sector. The analysis includes monitoring the situation in the last ten years to give an overview of current conditions and trace the trend of improvement over the years, if any. Over the past decade, various political structures have influenced women’s participation in senior management positions, requiring a focused approach to improve their inclusion. However, the current distribution of power and governance is still far from achieving full gender parity, as the ratio of distribution of leadership positions between women and men for this important indicator, which will allow women equal participation in government, equal access to decision-making processes and equal distribution of power in society.

The publication is available in Macedonian, Albanian, and English.

Additionally, the information package from this analysis – Where Are the Women in in Leadership Roles in the Executive Branch and Administration? – is available in Macedonian, Albanian, and English.
