With a series of cultural events named Space for Talking, which will be held in six cities around country at the end of May and the beginning of June, HERA – Health Education and Research Association in cooperation with Interart Cultural Center, will raise awareness of gender equality. These events are part of the Space for Talking project supported by Germany through the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the regional project for social inclusion of vulnerable groups in the Western Balkans.
The purpose of the event is through art, dance, theater and film merged into one performance, performed by the dancers of Skopje Dance Theatre to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the community, to eradicate stereotypes and to strengthen young, marginalized and socially vulnerable people.
The event Space for Talking consists of a short film and a dance performance, which represent an artistic reflection of the subject. Sociologists, activists and psychologists have been invited, and they will talk about where we are and what we should do next in terms of social position and gender equality.
Through interaction and active involvement of the audience, we expect people to talk about personal experiences and real stories from our environment to face the gender inequality that exists. At the same time, through discussions during the events we would build strong communities that understand the importance of respecting the right to equality as the main prerequisite for peace and development in the environment in which we live. We all want healthy, humane and a caring society in which young people are informed, heard and supported through understanding and accepting gender equality which is the basis for free expression and realization of everyone’s potential.
