With regard to the recommendations of the World Health Organisation and UNESCO, as well as the needs of young people who are part of peer education organised by HERA, we reviewed the materials and the programme for peer education, which resulted in the new Peer Education Handbook for Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
HERA has been implementing the peer education programme as a very successful activity since 2014, on the territory of the City of Skopje, Struga, Gostivar, Kumanovo, Shtip, Probishtip, Tetovo, Debar, Bitola, Kavadarci, Negotino.
In the past years, we have conducted 8 trainings for peer educators, who, in addition to receiving several days of intensive training, in order to be certified, also go through a supervised process of evaluation of their skills for conducting workshops and evaluating their knowledge and attitudes. These young educators, in co-operation with senior educators, trained over 2,000 peers in just a few years.
Based on their experiences, evaluations, analyses and reflections, we focused on bringing the contents closer to the needs of young people, according to the new trends and generational challenges, and created a revised version of the Handbook, which is available in Macedonian and in Albanian language.
