Gender equality and the advancement of the position of women in society is one of the basic principles of democracy and social order.
However, according to the International Labour Organisation, women in the world are underrepresented in every domain of socio-political life, are not sufficiently represented in parliaments and are far from all decision-making levels.
This is especially visible when it comes to Roma women as one of the most marginalized groups of women. With the aim of gaining insight of the situation in our country on the ground, in 2020 we conducted monitoring of the employment of Roma women in state institutions, during which we came to the conclusion that their representation is not only insufficient, but also that there are national institutions that have not employed any Roma women.
The research showed that the employment of Roma is the highest in the ministries compared to other state institutions.
Despite the fact that the findings of the conducted monitoring indicate that the number of employed Roma and Roma women increased in 2020, the conclusion that the principle of adequate and equitable representation in the institutions is not fully respected is undeniable.
