This is the fourth time we are marking the European HIV Testing Week, which this year runs from 17th to 24th November. The latest data show that Europe has about 1.2 million people living with HIV, 25% of whom are not even aware of being HIV-positive, and one half learn their HIV status late, thus postponing the access to therapy. In our country, according to World Bank and Ministry of Health estimations, by the end of 2014 around 50% of persons living with HIV have been diagnosed, while the rest have remained unaware of their HIV status.
“We all have an HIV status. Do you know yours?” is the message we use this year to encourage everyone to get tested to HIV, especially the ones engaging in unprotected sexual practices, reiterating that sexual transmission it the most common route for HIV transmission in our country.
